Bioavailability

Bioavailability is the amount of drug that is available after administration in the systemic circulation. Blood levels are used as a surrogate for the availability of the drug molecule at the receptor. For many investigational new drugs, bioavailability is linked to the formulation.

Using knowledge of the mechanisms of drug absorption and the factors influencing those mechanisms, and the physicochemical and biopharmaceutical properties of the API, it is often possible to optimize formulations, or to use alternate formulation approaches, to achieve acceptable bioavailability.

FinnBrit Consulting has the necessary experience to advise clients on how to improve the bioavailability of their drug candidates if required.
